First, when it’s cold, it doesn’t have much of a nose. The scents are subtle, with something salty at the top.
It starts off round, well-balanced, and refreshing in the mouth, then tart and snappy, after swallowing, the finish gives way to an EXPANDING sensation in the mouth of spice, and an increase of intensity of taste and feeling on the outer edges of the tongue, an amazing effect.

Native to Southern France, Picpoul (or Piquepoule) is a bit of a contradiction, yet indeed lives up to its French compound-word name: “pique” (sharp and lively) and “poule” (soft and maternal). Sometimes used in blends, it is one of the 13 varietals permitted in the Chateauneuf-du-Pape and Cotes-du-Rhone wines.

La Ferme du Monte - Gigondas

La Ferme du Mont is a collaborative project between grower Gabriel Rey and winemakers Stephane Vedeau and Claude Serra. The 2005 Gigondas is sourced from vineyards on the Dentelles de Montmirail mountains. Stoney soil and excellent exposure to the southern sun. It is a blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre.
Dark garnet hues. Enticing aromas of white pepper and red cooked jams. Clean and round on the palate, with balanced cherry licorice and rosemary spice tastes. Slight touch of anise on the end, which is just long enough, punctuated with mild tannins that carry off.

2005 is a classic vintage for Southern Rhone wines and this represents incredible value at the price.

Les Fumées Blanches Sauvignon is grown in the cooler Gers region of the Languedoc. Here, the grapes ripen so slowly that the Sauvignon harvest takes place three weeks behind the rest of the Languedoc. This region shows how it can withstand the heat and still keep freshness and aromatic expression. After harvest, the wine is macerated with the skins for a short period, then pressed off and allowed to ferment in stainless steel tanks. The Barossa Valley’s soil ranges from deep sand, red clays, rich loamy soils, decomposed granite and black clay – Shiraz loves the Barossa!

The growing season started with record low winter rainfall. Very warm growing conditions led to an early harvest and low yields across almost all varietals. Even though there were some small quantities, the fruit was very high quality and produced beautifully concentrated, rich wines.
