This Malbec-Bonarda is produced using the most modern winemaking techniques and the skills of our renowned winemakers. The Malbec gives a full bodied, firm structure to the wine, whilst the Bonarda gives soft elegant fruit colorful and lightly perfumed, with big, juicy blackberry flavors, and overtones of Asian plum, black cherry. We like to drink it with red meat dishes, but particularly large red meat steaks barbecued or grilled, however it suits many occasions.

Winemaking process is carried out in stainless still tanks. Up-dated technology is used in this process. Fermentation at a low temperature with selected yeasts complete this process, achieving a very fruity fresh wine.

The first thing to notice is the colour: nearly clear in the glass, just a hint of the palest straw. This belies the power of the wine, which was surprising. On the nose, the floral angle is what hits first. Roses, in this case, pear and apple also evident. On the palate, orange citrus really stood out, along with peaches. This sounds like the making of a potentially limpid mess, but the bright acidity holds everything together very, very well. The wine is medium weight in the mouth, again in contrast to what you expect from looking at it in the glass.

This is our most widely planted cultivar and this year the grapes ripened at lower sugar levels than normal. This is good news in a traditionally warm area where high alcohols are the norm. A lot of this blend comes from our cooler vineyards. The wine has excellent colour and a marked peppery complexity.

Good colour meant that the wines could be pressed off even earlier into the ferment to give soft, dark coloured full flavoured wines.

This dry Rosé has the bright red colour of a toffee apple. The nose is reminiscent of sweet fruit and bread-and-butter pudding. The sweet taste opens to show flavours of mixed fruit cocktail.

The wine was made by bleeding off juice from various Shiraz vineyards after skin contact ranging from 2 to 12 hours. The fermenting must kept on having fresh juice added to it with each intake of Shiraz and this resulted in a long slow ferment at low temperatures 12-15°C This resulted in a wine with good fruit and a complex mouth feel.

The Pinotage vineyards grow in the warmer areas of the district on Karoo soil. Canopy management occur to ensure the perfect ripening conditions. Controlled fermentation between 20-24 ° Celsius until dry followed by Malolactic fermentation prior to final blending. After fermentation the wine was clarified then cold stabilised. Aged in Light Oak for three months.

A combination of strawberries, ripe banana and mocha flavours. This wine is a complex, full and well-balanced wine.

Chenin blanc was brought to the Cape by French settlers. Also known as steen, it performs well in the warm climate of South Africa, retaining enough acidity to make a pleasantly fresh wine. The Stormy Cape range of wines was first created by Gyles Webb, one of South Africa's leading winemakers, who is joint owner at Thelema Mountain Vineyards. He has now moved on to other projects, but the aim is to continue to make this wine in very much the same style.

The must is fermented between 24-26°C. The maceration process takes place 10 days post fermentation. Malolactic fermentation follows.

100% of the wine is aged in French oak barrels for 6 months.

It has intense aromas of spice and aromatic herbs, in addition to black currant, notes of black pepper and cinnamon.

On the palate it is fresh and balanced, with a good structure and long finish.

Vintage Conditions
The lead up to the 2009 harvest in the Riverina was one of the best on record, with refreshing rains during spring and mild December
temperatures. This lead to fruit with flavour intensity and acid structure not seen for a few years. This all changed at the end of January with an unprecedented heat wave of plus 40 degrees for 14 days which saw ripening stall for 3 weeks. Overall the vintage was good to excellent.

Pink Elephant - Rose

Vivid cherry in colour. Flavour-wise it is great for a rosé - a little sweetness, not that you will probably notice as the acidity makes the finish crisp and dry, red-berried fruit and just a hint of tannins emphasising the dryness on the finish, with a streak of interest provided by little minerality.
Designed to accompany spicy Indian and Thai dishes, I thought it just as adaptable for fresh, spring/summer salads or sipping on its own.

Pink Elephant is made by José Neiva of DFJ Vinhos of Estremadura with Australian David Baverstock and was "stylistically designed by twelve wine experts, including two Masters of Wine". The experts held a blind tasting by at the Masala Zone, an upmarket curry restaurant in London. From tasting a range of rosé variants among major brands such as Jacob's Creek and Blossom Hill, the experts concluded too much sweetness was not the answer to spicy food and balance with acidity was important. Pink Elephant was born.
