Olvena
Located in the Arogan region of North Eastern Spain, Somontano was granted it's DO status as recently as 1984, and can truly be described as Spain's 'New World' wine region. Meaning under the mountain, the beautiful Somontano area in the rolling foothills of the Pyrenees is perfectly located for production of elegant wine styles. Whilst hot in the summer, the cooling effect of the mountains creates a diurnal temperature difference of up to 25C retaining freshness and flavour in the grapes, and the plentiful breezes help keep the vines dry and healthy. Soils are chalk, sandstone, and with alluvial material near the rivers, are almost as rich in calcium carbonates that make them ideal for vine growing.
